BIGHEM MAISON
Osaka, Japan
Mabuhay! Welcome to Eric and Matte’s flat—The Bigata-Hemmendinger’s Crib.
We’re excited to share with you this fully furnished and beautifully renovated traditional Japanese house, lovingly maintained to preserve its natural charm and relaxing ambiance.
About the Home
This 50-year-old traditional Japanese house is owned by Eric, a French national, and his Filipina wife, Matte.
Together, they invested their love and courage to restore the home, blending Japanese aesthetics with their unique perspectives.
Eric’s Touch
With his deep knowledge of 日本建築 (Nihon Kenchiku, Japanese Architecture), Eric ensured a meticulous renovation process.
Every detail—from the choice of raw materials to the final layout—reflects a commitment to quality, durability, and sustainability.
Warm timber flooring, elegant walls and ceilings, minimalist lighting, and a variety of self-contained rooms (including a Western-style dining area) create a welcoming atmosphere throughout the lodge.
Matte’s Inspiration
Inspired by traditional Filipino homes and drawing on her skills as a graphic designer, Matte crafted visual concepts that evoke comfort and warmth. She designed the overall layout, curated photographs, created the logo, and added intricate touches to BIGHEM MAISON’s social presence—all to inspire and captivate guests, making them feel at home even when far away.
A Fusion of Cultures
Eric and Matte, as foreigners in Japan, combined their strengths and styles—French, Filipino, and Japanese—to create a unique synthesis of design. Every piece of furniture was hand-chosen or self-crafted, ensuring that every guest can truly feel
“RIGHT AT HOME.”
Experience the harmony of tradition, creativity, and comfort at
BIGHEM MAISON—a home where East meets West, and every detail is made with heart.
